Kerala (India) is a wonderful trip and includes some fantastic cycling with amazing scenery.

The journey starts and finishes in Cochin. You’ll visit the hill stations and tea plantations of Munnar and the cardomom fields of Thodupuzha. Our daily mileage is around 60km. Also you will encounter some longish ascents and descents so we recommend this moderately challenging trip for all regular cyclists. Whenever possible, we’ll provide plenty of stops for refreshments and photographs too.

The beautifully crafted kettuvallam (houseboats) will be one of our overnight stays and they provide a taste of Kerala culture. Alongside the houseboats we’ve selected some lovely local hotels to stay overnight in. When we make the return journey towards Cochin you’ll cycle along the Old Beach Road, an experience definitely not to be missed.

The weather will be pleasantly warm, around 23 to 25 degrees.

There are 14 major languages in India and around 200 minor languages and dialects. Malayalam is the spoken language in Kerala (India) however we were still shocked to discover that our hard-learnt Hindi wasn’t useful here. People speak English but it isn’t as widespread as other parts of India.
