This departure will be led by Ken Woodhouse and Angela Walker.
Few countries are as varied as Spain; this trip combines the Alpine feel of the Basque mountains with extensive inland plains, historic towns like Segovia and the rugged mountains and white villages of Andalucia.
Cycling
Starting in the vibrant city of Bilbao, this holiday combines challenging mountain days with fast long flat rides across the interior plains to give your legs a deserved rest. This is a trip that also offers historic towns, UNESCO World Heritage sites, vineyards, and culminates at the Mediterranean coast where a dip in the sea beckons. With over 13,500 meters of climbing and more than 690 miles of riding, this route offers the perfect balance of challenging ascents, breathtaking descents, and peaceful countryside roads.
Highlights
- From Guggenheim to Gothic Splendour: Kick off your adventure in Bilbao, home to the iconic Guggenheim Museum, and ride through cities like Burgos and Segovia, visiting awe-inspiring cathedrals, Roman aqueducts, and ancient monasteries along the way.
- Explore Spain’s Wine Regions: Pedal through Spain’s famous wine country, including Peñafiel and Montilla, with opportunities to stop at traditional wineries for tastings of world-class Spanish wines.
- Tackle Iconic Mountain Passes: Challenge yourself on legendary climbs through the Sierra de Guadarrama and Sierra Bermeja. These climbs offer stunning views and rewarding descents, perfect for road cyclists seeking both effort and reward.
- Historic and Cultural Immersion: Ride through medieval towns such as Toledo and Ronda, where you’ll encounter Moorish architecture, Arab fortresses, and Gothic cathedrals, immersing yourself in Spain’s rich history.
- Untouched Landscapes and Quiet Roads: Experience Spain’s varied landscapes—from quiet high plains and ancient woodlands to rugged national parks and peaceful olive groves—on roads that are blissfully free from traffic.
- Tapas and local wines: because it’s not only about riding your bikes!
Accommodation
Accommodation is on a twin-share, bed and breakfast basis in comfortable hotels selected to support a good night’s rest after long days in the saddle. Many hotels offer additional amenities such as pools, but our main focus is rider comfort and secure bike storage. As the route covers the full length of Spain, a few nights may be spent in more basic hotels in smaller towns—but these are the exception, and all have been carefully chosen based on our experience running this trip to ensure a balanced and restful stay throughout the tour.
The trip is costed on a twin share basis, although single rooms may be available on payment of a £650 single supplement.
Meals
The hotels will provide breakfast whilst the support team will provide a pack-up lunch.
Having run this tour previously, we’ve found that dinner in Spain is typically served later in the evening—often much later than what many of our UK-based riders are used to. After a long day of cycling, this can be challenging. To help with this, we recommend keeping well-fuelled throughout the day, and our support team will carry extra food and snacks to ensure you’re well-nourished until dinner. We’ll also aim to identify earlier dining options where possible, but flexibility is key given local dining customs.
We will carry emergency energy gels and bars in the support van but you are advised to bring along your own preferred sports nutrition to fuel your ride.
In the Tour Plan, (B, L, D) refers to meals included in the trip cost i.e. Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.

While we will take all reasonable care while handling your bikes, using padded covers and making sure they are securely stored, we are not liable for any loss or damage during transportation and storage. We recommend you have appropriate insurance.
